morning sky

Lately, I’ve been really into taking pictures of the sky. Sorry for the Ambush!

You may have read this post and would know that this year I’m taking Duke of Ed . And the Duke of Ed is not just about tramping which I wrote about my experience, but it also includes Learning a New Skill, Physical Recreation and Service. So I have to decide on a new skill soon so I can get started. I checked out their website and found a MASSIVE list of options and under each option are specific requirements to be met. I am still contemplating on which new skill I should learn because of all the choices. Here is my list of possibilities so far:

  • Computer Games –this is awesome! You have to investigate different games and consoles!!
  • Cookery
  • Drawing
  • Donkey (handling etc.)
  • Magazine Production
  • Paper craft
  • Still Photography
  • Zoology
  • Writing
  • Confectioner’s Decoration (Cake decorating)
  • Conjuring and Magic

There are way more options that I would like to do, but I think this is my short-list. I have no idea how I am going to choose only one!

Update: Had a netball game this morning. You know how they say, it doesn’t matter if you win or lose-just try your best. But you know what? There’s a certain kind of satisfaction in winning ;)

The Weekend Plan

friday Tree

First picture for “Snap Happy Photo Project”. More of Autumn leaves to come!

11:40am

Guess what? I’m writing this during Business Studies Class! I don’t think the teacher will notice. We’re just making computer generated posters talking about Boycotting Nike! Because they exploit their workers in Vietnam and China. They get paid $1.60 a day! I mean get real. Who can live on that? Well I better get on with it…

You know, even though school is like one of my least (over exaggerating-it is the least) favourite places for me to be, there are places and times in the school that I absolutely LOVE! One of my favourite times of the day is Lunchtimes! No guesses why___ it’s perfect on a warm, sunny day when I don’t have any badminton/netball practice or meeting I have to be at, I can just hang out under the massive trees on the field! And the best thing is…the school has wireless Internet! So, just lazing on the lawn with the lappy out is pure bliss!

8:41pm

Today was my first day at work! Yeah, and guess what’s my job! My sister’s! It’s only on Fridays because my sister plays badminton now on that day, so I get to fill in for her! It’s the Kumon job…in the end I just ended up standing around for like 3 hours. No kid dared to ask me any math questions… I’m thinking because I look like one of the students anyway ;)

Saturday is going to be one heck of a busy day! Believe you me!

-First up I have to go to the gym, if that’s the case it will be 8:00am-10:00am (which is the time I reach home).

-At 10:30am I’ll have to leave the house to get to my netball game!

-After the game, I’ll reach home around 12:15pm.

-Time for LUNCH!

-Then a few hours study period for my exams next week and then off at 4:40pm to dance class for the last of 4 short, intro-lessons.

-By the time we get home, it’ll be 6:20pm hopefully, then rush off to get a quickie for dinner and then shoot off as fast as we can to Vector Arena.

-And enjoy the Westlife Concert!!!

-And BREATHE.

-WAIT!

-Sunday is Mother’s Day so that means going out for dinner and celebrating! (Watch out for the Mother’s Day Post to come!)

-Ahhhh…now that should be about it!

*Inhales Deeply* *Exhales Deeply*…Very deeply…

Trudging around!

div_tuesday

Note: Written on Tuesday! -So I’ll put the day of the week sign as Tuesday! :) – Yup it’s a new addition to my page!

Duke of Ed

Little flashback to Duke of Ed weekend… this is a hill we climbed one morning that I forgot to take my camera. Thanks Julia for giving me the photo!

Life has been really busy lately, hence the lack of blogposts. School has started with a great crack & bang! Back to normal once again. Trudging in homework & the rest of that mess.

I’m writing this in the ICT room at school and the annoying sound of little kids (my school is year 1-13) is starting to make me imagine strangling their little necks. (Evil? Pretty much). They’re playing on the Math World Day website, going against each other answering math questions. At least they’re doing something educational right? Julia’s writing her social studies essay, Tianyi’s reading up on Chinese love stories on the net & me, I’m writing this post on Microsoft Outlook on my school account, ready to send it to my Hotmail & post it onto BLOGGER at home.

Until very recently, I’ve always started an activity (e.g. art, kumon, drama class) and then stopped because I hated it or didn’t like it, or a stupid reason like that. I’ve finally found a hobby that I really LOVE. You probably know what that is already…

Netball! Of course, one and only.

Last night of Holidays

Note: Guys, remember to sleep early, however much you wanna continue reading your favourite book, surfing the net, talking, texting whatever. Go to Sleep!!!

As you might know, school started again on Monday for the beginning of Term 2. So, on Sunday night (being a good girl I am) I decided to sleep early, get a good rest and all the rest of that. By the time I got into bed it was only 10! Record! I lay down and wished with all my heart that I would amazingly just close my eyes and fall into a deep sleep and not wake up until the end of the year. Obviously, it didn’t happen like that and I just lay there thinking & thinking about the horrors of school that awaited me the next day. Why can’t I sleep when I want to?

After maybe half an hour of tossing and turning, thinking of essays, exams & studying I heard the pitter pattering of rain. A calm and soothing sound filled my ears and at once I stopped thinking. Blissful contentment settled into my mind and then I heard a thumping beat, thumping up the staircase. It must have been my mum coming upstairs from watching tele. A few seconds passed and then, a gentle melody began playing. It was my sister tapping the keys on our piano downstairs. The electric toothbrush whirred into motion, the rain beating a solid drum base, and my sister playing a soulful tune. Ahh…. I love nights like this. Music to my ears- literally. And I can’t believe I’ve been missing these blissful moments every night for the last 4-5 years because I always sleep the latest. Now, I love getting into bed before everybody else.

I closed my eyes, and I couldn’t remember anything else the next morning. I guess that got me to sleep.

Zzzzzzzz……….

Grocery Store cont’d

monday

Okay, unexpectedly, I just received another email attached with a picture from the grocery shop set. This refers to the post I just wrote hardly 5 minutes ago. Please read the other post as well which would be under this one! Okay, this is an interesting picture… It’s of the cashier at the till in the store. Doesn’t sound interesting? Well the thing is that there were about 5-7 other customers waiting behind us when we were at the till. And then the cashier girl’s mobile phone rang! huh? a phone ringing on the job with a line of customers waiting for you? That’s okay isn’t it? If you turn it off or turn it on in your breaks, no problem. Well the thing that gets me is that she actually picked it up! WHATTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT??????? What sort of service is this? You could see the disgruntled faces of the waiting customers, while me & my dad were just staring at her. She didn’t even say to the person she was talking to, “gotta run, talk later! bye” . She talked for a good minute or so before telling the person she was at work. *sigh*.

cashier

Yup, she talked long enough for me to take this photo. Amazing? You bet.

Grocery Store

monday

Note: I love the grocery store and the one I am at is the Botany South Garden Orchard, or something like that. It was a short visit with my dad to get some fruit and meat!

Yup, since the start of the school holidays I’ve been posting blog posts every single day with the exception of yesterday. I’m not sure why, just didn’t have want to because I didn’t feel the need to write. But today, I was looking at the pictures on my dad’s phone and noticed that a couple weeks back I took some photos at the local Asian grocery store. AND I had no idea how to transfer those pictures onto the computer so I innocently sent them on multimedia which is a decision I regret well & fully. Because unknowingly this costs money! haha, and here I was thinking it was a cool free service like Bluetooth. But, oh well it’s done now and I better make the most of the $4 something I spent for sending 7 pictures. I feel like such a dumbo… Enjoy!

These peacharines are so DELICIOUS! and as you can tell by the name, it is a mix of peach and nectarine. The flavour is a tangy sweetness and its texture is nice & crunchy! You should definitely get your hands on some of these, but I don’t know if the price is worth it or not… I’m guessing not or else they would be pretty common in every household.

These Peacharines look more like peaches than nectarines though. Inside is yellow meat with a splash of red near the stone/pip.

Fruit aisle

Here’s my dad picking some fruit from the fruit aisle. Love the colours!

Jackfruit?

Okay, I admit. I totally don’t know the name of this fruit even though I’ve seen it and heard of its name sooo many times! I’m guessing… Jackfruit? Help me out on this please! Anywho… it looks cool!

girl

Honestly, I’m not sure why I have a picture of this little girl in a trolley… Oh yeah… it was because I liked her little ears on her jersey! I quickly snapped this shot while her mum was picking some food from the shelves and hadn’t had the chance to see me paparazzi’ing her daughter!

 meat

Over at the meat stand getting some… meat? Yea actually we were getting some pork liver. It always amazes me how cheap liver is. It’s like how many cents for a few slithers of it. I’m not sure if that’s cheap of not, but a few cents sounds cheap to me!

skittle m&m stand

OH, I LOVE these! These are the little pay 50c (or 20c in some cases) for a round of lollies! In this case m&m’s

and my personal favourite, SKITTLES!!! Yummy. And you wanna know the truth? I’ve only had the honour of turning the lolly knob ONCE.

Okay, you may have noticed that the captions for the pictures in the post have been pretty - s t r e t c h e d - but had to make use of them somehow right? Use your money to its worth! …now you know how much of a money freak I am…

Holiday Bliss!

Note: Where does time go?

Today has been a very surreal day for me. I woke at 9:30am, bright eyed and bushy-tailed ready for my highly anticipated first day of school holidays. I promised myself to complete some homework today and to my shock & awe I actually sat down and did some! I was quite impressed with myself :) because I am the biggest procrastinator in the world of procrastinators…. After many -s t r e t c h e d- hours had past, by 2pm I couldn’t take it no more, so moved my ‘workstation’ to the office. All I did was laze around the internet, reading blogs-namely www.quaintly.net , listening to music and snacking on junk. B L I S S

Mum arrived home, transformed into my physiotherapist and healed my aching back (which had killed me for 7 days). Much agony, with screams and chewing on corn chips to stop my moaning ;)

Then came much laughter, sarcasm and silliness. It was so much fun, mucking around and making memories with my mum & sister. We cat-walked in the kitchen, modelling the latest in elastic wear! And we joked of our rubber tight bums, pencil thin thighs and 6 pack abs :) !… These days, are those I never want to end… because Life’s too good to be true…

Picture of the Day! :)

Too close to home

Note: This post is a tribute to the OPC kids… R.I.P

As you may have known from a previous post, this year for school camp I went to the Sir Edmund Hilary Outdoor Pursuit Centre (OPC) in Tongariro…. This morning when I woke up, I heard that 6 kids and a teacher died at OPC… I wasn’t very sure of the details until this evening on the news which held extensive coverage of the tragedy. The group of 10-12 people and kids who were 16 had been canyoning (walking, swimming, tramping, abseiling etc.) in the Tongariro ranges had been walking upstream Mangatepopo River when the water rose and swept them away. By 1 o’clock this morning 7 bodies were discovered by Search & Rescue. As I watched the news on the kids and teacher who died, they had all their lives ahead of them – one of the girls who died had planned to make it as head girl next year…

And you know what? The river rose and fell all in 1/2 hour… what luck is that? The kids came from Elim (Christian) College in Howick… which hits even closer to home… how could this happen? As our family sat tearing away in front of the TV, we wondered about their families…. Parents aren’t supposed to bury their kids and not at this age anyway… The parent of the girl who was going to be head girl was very strong in the interview and told the press that it tested his faith in god…

Elim School held a gathering memorial hall in the chapel for anyone who wanted to pay their last respects to the kids and teacher who died… all its walls are decorated with messages to their deceased friends and flowers everywhere…

OPC… the thing that puts me on edge and on the emotional side is that I was up that very same river they died in at OPC…. it could have been anyone…

One of my good mates Rebecca told me a few minutes ago… that Mr McClean the teacher who died on the trip was her Year 7 teacher…

Even Bronwyn told me she knows one of the survivors of the group’s tragedy…

Why does it hit so close to home?

Floyd Fernandes, 16 of Howick

Talented musician

Portia McPhail, 16 of Manurewa

Netball-player & coach

Anthony Mulder, 16 of Howick

Sport lover + fun person

Huan (Tom) Hsu, 16 of Farm Cove

Taiwanese Exchange student

Natasha Bray, 16 of Pakuranga

Upcoming headgirl

Tara Gregory, 16 of Mt Wellington

Friendly + mature

and

Teacher Anthony McClean, 29 of Howick

died trying to save a student on his back.

May you all Rest in Peace.

Holiday? Uh…no holiday

Cutie of the Day: My sister, Bronwyn!– Refer to end of post!

Term 1 holidays? I don’t think so… The teachers have been thinking… weird thoughts. Well, the girls aren’t going to be at school for 2 weeks so let’s give them heaps of work! The holidays are supposed to be times for chillaxing! Hanging out with your mates, doing nothing, late nights, late mornings, doing whatever you want… not homework! Now we’ve got an essay to write about World War 1… perfect… and what about all that math homework? 2 practice exams and studying for week 2 exams…enough with the moaning! :)

Well today, we watched the finale of Dancing with the Stars. It was really good and the celebs now dance like total pros… well that’s with the exception of Monty… and our favourite won, TEMEPARA GEORGE!!! woo!

I’m really excited because netball season has started! Favourite time of the year for sports! Love playing in the hail and rain! I mean I get sick and all, but all in the love of the game! It’s quite late already and this is the time I’ve been sleeping for the past few nights, so I guess it’s best to keep it short!

Love

x

Megan

P.S. Stay tuned for more Dancing news!

Who’s the little cutie?
